Course Credit

Domestic Students

What is Course Credit?

Applicants may have some of the skills and knowledge relevant to the chosen course and therefore may apply for recognition of skills.  Course Credit has three main forms: National Recognition, Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning.

Course Credit can come from either, a qualification obtained from elsewhere or skills and knowledge gained through industry and life experience.  The Course Credit Assessor will help determine from the evidence provided what category the course credit applies to.

If awarded course credit there will be a reduction in course fees and the applicant will not be required to attend classes or complete assessments relating to the credited topics & or units of competencies.

What do I need to do to apply for Course Credit?

Bring any evidence to the course inteview that may be relevant to the chosen course ad complete the Application for course credit on the Domestic Student Application Form.  The inteviewer can assess and advise if there is sufficient skills or previous training to warrant an application for course credit.

Upon acceptance into the desired course and completed enrolment into the course, another apppointment is made to go through the course credit process.

At the course credit appointment all forms of evidence are required plus an application fee of $100.00.  The application fee is charged for the administration & credit processing.  It is rcommended that an application for course credit is made only when the course credit discount is greater thean the application fee.   This is normally determined at the time of the initial course interview.

The course credit assessor will match skills, previous qualifications and industry knowledge to the topics and unit of competency of the relevant course enrolled for.  Once this process is complete the course credit assessor will notify the applicant in writitng of the course credit received and adjust the course fees to reflect the credit/discount.

The applicant will receive a class plan outlining the credited classes, of which do not require attendance.

Forms of evidence can include:

A diary or journal, which demonstrates all the relevant duties or skills done on a daily basis - at work, at home, in voluntary work, community work or in personal spare time.

Assembled documents, photocopies, photographs, or other relevant papers, which show evidence of life skills.

Submit letters of reference from employers, fellow workers (both paid and unpaid) or from involved community groups.

Provide copies of Certificates, Diplomas, Statement of results etc. received from stuying a course (either in Australia or overseas).  This could also include short courses that may have been studied at work or for personal interest.  Personal and Business telephone nmbers of contacts that can support any claim of recognition.
