MMA&A NEWS: MARCH 06

Written by Rachael Thompson

Students of 2006

The year is underway for a new round of students enrolled in Certificate II in Makeup Services. Full time students began January 20th and part time students on January 10th - right in the middle of a big heat wave.

Our March 20th intake is completely full and has also started.

The next round of intakes begin:

  • JUNE (FULL TIME)
  • JULY (PART TIME)

Anyone interested in enrolling for these intakes should contact Tammy on 8223 3233 to set up an interview. Enrolments have already commenced.

New Products and Retail Area

We have expanded our retail area at Media Makeup and now have a new retail set up, including new cosmetic counters - making way for an extended range of makeup brands. Not only do we stock the full range of Makeup Forever products and are the only stockists nationally of this extensive range, but recently we have taken on the French range Atelier. This includes professional, highly-pigmented products for everyday and photographic use.

The Atelier waterproof fluid foundation has been very popular, particularly with brides, as it sits well on the skin in hot weather.

Students have already been taking advantage of the discount on these products for their kits. This discount is also available to makeup artists Australia-wide and to beauty therapists.

Meanwhile we've been doing more one-on-one sessions with clients than ever. In these sessions, clients learn the best techniques on how to apply their own makeup.

  • 1 hour session $60.00
  • 2 hour session $120.00

Please book by calling 8223 3233.

Media Makeup Agency

Our Wedding agency has been extremely busy, with hair and makeup services booked out months in advance.

We have a team of about 10 artists who are available to be booked throughout the year.

Clients are assured of professional standards as all artists are properly trained in hair styling and in makeup artistry.

With such a high volume of bookings coming through our agency, potential job opportunities for students are regularly presenting themselves. Once media makeup students are of a certain level, have work experience and have passed a skills test, they are invited to be put on the agency books.

Hair and makeup services for weddings and other occasions can be booked through Media Make Agency on 8223 3233.

Advanced Diploma and Diploma

Advanced Diploma students have been progressing well with their training. They've been doing beautiful sculpting, sketching and moulding.

Diploma students have been making custom made foam latex noses.

Some students created a "Mr Tumnis" nose, which they then used to create a "Mr Tumnis" look a-like in the prosthetics studio. (Mr Tumnis is a character from the recent blockbuster, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.)

We have included photos of our students great efforts over the past months.

New Studio Space

Renovations are complete! We have a bigger and better space perfect for sculpting and moulding and making many, many more wonderful characters and complimentary body parts using prosthetics techniques.

Goodbye and Good luck!

Paula, our in-house hairdresser, has now opened her own salon in Glenelg. We bid her a fond farewell and wish her all the best in her new business!
