Royal show off: fashion parades
Media Makeup students are demonstrating their talents to hundreds of spectators during the Adelaide Royal Show and David Jones fashion parades this August and September.
Certificate students will be doing hair and makeup for the Royal Show parades from 1st September through to 9th September everyday from 11am until about 6pm, with a small admission fee charged at the door. The 'Hollywood' hair and makeup theme will be accompanied by light entertainment in the form of singing and live music. In addition, we have a stand in the pavilion with free hair and makeup touch-ups on offer to the public who have a coupon, providing a great opportunity to come and experience our makeup and find out more about courses and training ideas.
Meanwhile, trainer Bec Cochrane will oversee a team of our students for the David Jones fashion parade as they assist the Estee Lauder team from 31st August to 2nd September.

Searching for the Right Make-up School
1. The first step to finding the right makeup school is to identify what's out there. Jump online and onto a search engine like Google or Yahoo, and type in some listings like:
- make-up schools
- make-up colleges
- schools for makeup artistry
- makeup schools in Australia
- make-up schools in Australia
- make-up artist school
2. Browse the makeup school websites and see if the courses suit what you are looking for.
3. Contact the schools and ask questions about their training.
4. Look for government accreditation, as it protects you and your training. A well-recognised makeup school should also have a tuition assurance scheme in place, which protects your training.
5. Talk to people in the industry, for example, cosmetic consultants at the MAC or Bobbi Brown counters, wedding artists, television and film makeup artists - they will help recommend a school/training provider.
6. Visit the school - Get a feel for the environment, check the facilities to see how spacious they are and ask lots of questions: Is the equipment up-to-date and in-line with industry needs; do they offer work placement opportunities; are the trainers well-qualified?
7. Ask to sit in on a class - the best way to see if any type of school suits you is to try it. It's also a great way to suss out if they really care about you.
MAC product update
Tammy recently met with the MAC Artist Relations guru, Esa, to get an update on the latest products available for students' kits.
She tried a great skin finish called Shimpagne, which is designed to work well on camera because even though it's shimmery, it doesn't glare on screen or look shiny. She tried a powder blush called Taupe, a very versatile contour colour for cheeks and a great colour for the eyes and the eyebrow.
Media makeup will be offering 10% off on these products and more, to makeup artists on all media makeup short courses, just visit the MAC Pro website for details www.macpro.com
