She’s a talented fashion photographer, stylist, makeup artist and more, but finesse and charm are what make Denise Hojdyssek the new ‘Audrey Hepburn of Media Makeup’.

Denise Hojdyssek has had a quick accent in her makeup artistry career. From budding student at Media Makeup Academy and Agency, to one of the most multi-skilled trainers in the school, Denise has a lot to offer today’s students as well as a passion for her job.

“It’s a dream come true. It’s really the best moment in my career because I can combine all my skills together in one job and I really enjoy the training side of it,” says Denise.

Denise grew up in Sydney and after high school studied photography and then design, before she discovered styling. This led her to becoming a window dresser and collection coordinator for David Jones on Elizabeth St, Sydney. Meanwhile, her freelance photography work started to take off and that’s when Denise realised that makeup artistry could bring even more to her photographic fashion work.

“I’d always loved makeup and when I started doing a lot of freelance I thought, wouldn’t it be great to offer makeup and hair styling in my sessions.”

Soon, Denise was accepted into makeup school and eventually her training and many talents landed her the perfect job where she could bring all her experience into play at once.

Denise’s role at Media Makeup has taken the school’s Certificate III course in Live Production, Theatre and Events CUE30203 to a new level, giving students the opportunity to learn from an experienced stylist. Each Certificate III student now styles his or her own fashion shoot from beginning to end. First, students must plan and research the ‘look’ of the shoot, with themes such as ‘bohemian’, ‘new romantic’ or ‘street style’, and compile this in their visual diaries - taking lighting and design into consideration. A stylist mentors the students through fashion looks. Next, there is a model call where they choose the right model for this look, and then at the shoot, students must pull all the elements together under Denise’s supervision, including makeup, hair, fashion accessories and setting. As well as a fashion shoot, Certificate III students also prepare and execute a catwalk presentation and incorporate professional lighting.

Meanwhile, Denise’s role as in-house photographer ensures that by the end of the course, students have professional studio photographs of their work for their portfolios.

As a graduate of the school herself, Denise is not only demand from students, but she is frequently offered additional freelance work, since her Certificate III in Makeup Artistry qualified her for admission onto the agency’s books.

Even though Denise is known for her outrageously diverse talent, her love of clothes and her Audrey Hepburn style, at the end of the day, her favourite thing to do is settle into her stylish little Adelaide apartment with her British shorthaired cat and watch old movies while she dreams up the next big shoot, fashion extravaganza, style sensation or maybe even something all together new.
