MMA&A NEWS: JUNE 07

IN THE PICTURE

Bringing young directors and new makeup artists together leads to good exposure for everyone. My Pet Zombie by Damien Harkin and Derranged by Anthony Hills are just the beginning of many-a-collaboration between Media Makeup students and emerging local filmmakers.

Two teams of Media Makeup students, now in the later stages of their Advanced Diplomas, have been hard at work, applying their skills in special effects makeup, hair styling and more for some fantastically grotesque scenes, including one set inside the abandoned meatworks at Old Noarlunga.

The films will screen at the Mercury cinema this October, providing a fantastic opportunity for students, filmmakers, media and the public, to see this work up close on the big screen.

NEW INTAKE IN SEPTEMBER

Following huge demand, Media Makeup is introducing an additional intake of Part Time students for Certificate II and III in Makeup. Courses for the new intake commence on September the 10th and run on Monday and Thursday nights, from 6pm - 8.30pm.

The July intake is already completely full and the new September intake is almost completely full already, so be quick if you want a spot! Call Media Makeup on (08) 8223 3233.

STUDENTS GET INDUSTRY EXPOSURE

Both groups of our Advanced Diploma students are off to Sydney this June to be skills-tested by internationally acclaimed Image Creative Partnership, a company specialising in special effects makeup, animatronics and special costume effects. During their two-week workshop, participants will be exposed to and trained by a group of leading artists currently working on high-end international productions. Students will be emersed in the latest technologies, use the latest materials and work to current industry requirements.

CORPORATE STYLING

Media Makeup has just branched out and launched Corporate Styling, a service offered to small, medium and large businesses that want to engage staff in team-building exercises and at the same time, enhance their corporate image.

Staff from companies in the banking, telecommunications, education and primary industries, for example, learn how to style their hair, fit their uniforms and how to best accessorise and apply makeup, in a way that complements the individual as well as the corporate look.

For more information or to receive an explanatory DVD, call Tammy on (08) 8223 3233.

BLING BLING SUCCESS

Following the popularity of the Bling Bling room, Media Makeup students have been bringing style and sophistication to teens and their school formals.

Most recently, our team visited Brighton High and Seymour College, where formal goers paid $10 for individual hair and makeup sessions, with proceeds going to charity.

BE A QUALIFIED PERSONAL STYLIST

Personal Styling courses are coming soon to Media Makeup. Applications will be open to those with Certificate III in Makeup qualifications or higher.

Participants learn how to style hair, fashion and makeup, as well as how to organise and produce a full photo fashion shoot. During the course, which is aimed at fashion retailers, hair dressers, fashion consultants and artists, participants get to organise, style and produce a fashion shoot of their own.

Keep your eyes peeled on our website for more details soon, or call Media Makeup on (08) 8223 3233.

SACE SUCCESS

Every Friday our group of School students studying Certificate II in Makeup Services attend classes as a part of their year 10, 11 or year 12 studies. This has proven to be extremely popular and is giving students the opportunity to see inside the makeup industry. Amy Sutton has taken her studies a step further and is modelling overseas.

CAREER EXPO

The Media Makeup stand at the Adelaide Showgrounds on May 25th and 26th was again a complete success.

Bus loads of students queued up to get their very own airbrushed tattoos and take virtual tours of Media Makeup Headquarters, many of them leaving armed with new Media Makeup for Teens vouchers. Media Makeup for Teens is a new series of workshops held on Saturdays and some lucky expo-goers will soon be taking part at the fantastic price of only $60 for two weekend sessions.

Meanwhile our current students pulled off an incredible series of events in the theme of 'red', including a full prosthetic character in a latex suit being lead around on stage, makeup for a cat walk fashion parade and a 'Cirque du Soleil' style demonstration.

ROYAL ADELAIDE SHOW

Media Makeup students will again be doing hair and makeup for the Wool Fashion Parade at the Royal Adelaide Show this year on Friday 7th September. More details coming soon.
